Technical Assistance

Technical assistance to grantees, grant applicants, CRP members and Regional Coordinators is necessary in order for them to best follow through on their projects. Funding to begin technical assistance activities is available in each funding region.

Assessments to identify technical assistance needs in each region are critical for the first year of grantmaking within a region.  The Global Advisory Board's suggestion is to use current technical assistance budgets to conduct these initial regional assessments. This suggestion is proposed at the regional workshops or to the Regional Advisory Commiteea and/or the Community Review Panels. Main technical assistance issues usually arise during grant making process when gaps in skills, knowledge etc. are identified. The Community Review Panels flag major regional issues for technical assistance by using the application process to identify key problems for individual grantees (i.e. legal, fund management, programmatic knowledge) and identifying additional needs through ongoing communication with grantees. 

Technical Assistance Partners – organizations that have agreed to make themselves available to provide technical assistance at the request of regional bodies are looking for ways to increase their involvement with the Collaborative Fund.  However, in most cases, the initial Technical Assistance assessments need to be completed before Technical Assistance partners can be engaged.  In our pilot region of Eastern Europe/Central Asia, a partnership with the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG) has been developed to train and mentor treatment educators through the EATG STEP program.
